Members of the CRI staff helped Roskilde Festival evaluate their new pavilion deposit system. In recent years Roskilde Festival has seen a huge increase in the number of guests bringing cheap, fragile pavilions to the festival. These help the festival goers keep the sun and rain at bay, but they are often abandoned when it’s time to go home. In an attempt to reduce the environmental impacts of the production and disposal of so many pavilions, Roskilde Festival introduced a deposit system - 100kr per pavilion - hoping to encourage festival goers to take their pavilions home and re-use them. Four CRI staff members conducted short interviews with festival guests to gauge reception to and likely success of this measure, as well as a visual count of pavilions that had and had not paid the deposit. The results from both these analysis will form the basis of a short report to Roskilde Festival.
